Mac Pro introduced in early 2008 or later Xserve models introduced in early 2009. To find your Mac model, memory, storage space, and macOS version, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu. If your Mac isn't compatible with OS X El Capitan, the installer will let you know. I own a late-2010 MacBook Air (1.4 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM), and I'm wondering if should update my OS from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. CON: The obvious argument against updating is that I have only 2GB RAM, and this worries me. I don't find this to be very problematic in Snow Leopard, but.
As you may have noticed Lion (10.7) is no longer available in the App Store. Apple intentionally pulled it from the App Store so people would go right to Mountain Lion (10.8) instead. As of today the latest version of Mac OS X is Mountain Lion, so you might as well just install that, but you don’t want to or if you machine doesn’t support it then you’ll want to go with Lion.
Lion (10.7) isn’t available to purchase thru the App Store, but you can still get it for $20 from Apple directly by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753). Don’t bother with 3rd party sources (eBay, Amazon, Craigslist, etc). It’s only $20 from Apple and you are 100% sure it is the right version and not a scam.
Apple will send you an email to download Lion, instead of sending you DVDs like they do with Snow Leopard. Order it, get the email, download it and you are good to go.
You can find out what OS X version you are on by clicking on the Apple icon, then select the “About This Mac” menu item. The number under the Apple logo is the version you are on. 10.5.x is Leopard and 10.6.x is Snow Leopard.
If you are on Leopard:
If your machine can go all the way up to Mountain Lion (10.8) then don’t bother going to Lion. If you do you’ll spend an extra $20 because each upgrade is $20. Go from Leopard to Snow Leopard ($20) then Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion ($20).
If you can’t go to Mountain Lion, then you still need to get Snow Leopard installed because you can’t go from Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion directly, you must first get Snow Leopard (10.6). Read my post “How to upgrade from Leopard (10.5) to Snow Leopard (10.6)” for more details on how to do that.
If you are on Snow Leopard:
Like I mentioned above, before you order Lion make sure you don’t want or can’t to go to Mountain Lion. Going from Snow Leopard to Lion is $20 and going from Lion to Mountain Lion is $20. Once you are on Snow Leopard you can go directly to Mountain Lion and save yourself $20.
If you really want Lion then give Apple a call and order it for $20. Like I mentioned above instead of a DVD they will send you an email with a link to download Lion.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Possible To Update To Mountain Lion On 2007 IMac?
Jun 21, 2012I currently have Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I got my imac in December 2007 from an Apple Store, but I can't seem to find anything that specifically says it is 'an early 2007' or 'late 2007' model. How do I know this? I have read that the 2007 model must be a late model. I also have 4 GB of memory, and it is an Intel core 2 duo. What I fit other qualifications after the answer to the 2007 model question is answered? Also, can I go straight from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion? Mac video converter mp4 to avi.

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Upgrading From 10.6.5 To Mountain Lion?
Jun 28, 2012I'm running 10.6.5 on my Mid 2010 15' MBP. I was also a MobileMe user.
Now I'm thinking about upgrading to Mountain Lion upon it's release, and have questions to help me decide if I want to use iCloud or not.
1) I have zero interest in Lion and want to skip it, going directly to Mountain Lion. Can this be done?
2) If I choose to use iCloud, during setup, one is given a list of checkboxes for the items they want to sync. One checkbox is labeled 'documents & data'.
Once this box is checked and a sycn is executed, what specific files are uploaded from my MacBook Pro?
Do I have control over what goes up into iCloud? Initially my iCloud usage would be mostly data files, I would want to choose which files go to the cloud and which files remain on my hard drive. Is this possible?
The amount of control over what goes into the cloud is my main concern. If I have total control, then iCloud will be great. If not then I will use another solution.

OS X Mountain Lion :: Finding Old Notes And Update In Mavericks
Sep 7, 2014My son's school wipes the hard drive of their computers every year when they upgrade. I made a copy of my son's entire hard drive (10.8) before turning the MacBook Pro in to be 'updated' (wiped and everything replaced with 10.9.4). Now my son has told me he made Notes he needs. what files do I need to replace from the backed up version of his system? I need to know how to locate the old files that I can not access by holding the option and going to the library etc because the old system files are on an external hard drive, not an active older mac.
I assume there is more than one file. We have not made any new Notes, so I'm OK to completely overwrite the new notes files with the ones from the older version. if there is any way to simply open the notes so I can copy and paste into Word, that would be fine too.

OS X Mountain Lion :: (10.8.5) How To Downgrade To Specific Update Of Java Version 6
Sep 8, 2014I am used MBA Mountain Lion OSX.
I am trying to use Business Objects through the web and unfortunately Java 7 is not compatible. (Java 1.6.0_45)?
I've been on here trying several other's codes and it says permission denied or 'unable to find any JVM versions matching 1.6.0_45'
Could that mean I don't have version 6u45 available to me period?

OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Software Update After Snow Leopard Clean Install
Jul 3, 2012Today I performed a clean install of Snow Leopard on my late 2009 Mac Mini. After completing the installation, I began running software update to bring everything up-to-date.While software update did find and install a number of updates (10.6.8v1.1 Combo update, Security Update 2012-002, Apple Software Installer Update, iLife Support 9.0.4, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.5.3, Airport Utility, Java, Safari) it did not find an update for iTunes (which starts at version 9.x, I believe, in a SL clean install).I assumed that this was some sort of random glitch and manually downloaded and installed iTunes 10.6.3.After that, I re-installed iLife '11 (from a retail DVD, not the App Store). When I ran Software Update again, it found updates for Garage Band, iDVD, and iWeb, but it did not show the updates for iPhoto and iMovie.I found this to be unnerving, as I performed a clean install when I first obtained this Mini a few months ago and didn't experience any of these problems - all of my Apple software updated automatically through Software Update without a hitch.
I began researching this problem online and found that other people have been experiencing this same problem (or some variation of it), and it seems like it began appearing around the time Apple updated some of its security certificates in March. In particular, I've found several references to the missing iPhoto update. This one is especially noticeable because an iPhoto library created in iPhoto 9.2.3 will not open in iPhoto 9.0, and this generates an error upon opening the program (i.e., a user backs up their iPhoto library created in 9.2.3, performs a SL clean install, reinstalls iLife, goes through the Software Update process until it shows that no more updates are available, and are shocked to find that they are unable to open their backed up iPhoto library because they have an out of date version of iPhoto). The most common (and admittedly logical) solution proposed in the threads I've read is to download any necessary updates directly from the Apple website. However, I am curious as to why this previously functional feature now appears to be broken.Has anyone else been struggling with this? Does it indeed have something to do with the new security certificates? Is Apple aware of the problem?

Apr 16, 2012I have updated my MB to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 - I know this means I am a little behind the times but the problems I am now having seem to justify my reluctance. Now am unable to connect to the internet! I use a time capsule connected via a router. Everything is still OK with every other device (PC, I phone, Ipod) in the house so I know the 'Network' is still enabled and there is no problem with the ISP. Strangley whenever I boot up the MB it appears to freeze the network such that the other devices also will then not access the internet. To regain access I have to turn off the MB and reset the router.
